Today I added “In God We Trust” to my Politix gallery at Zazzle. “In God We Trust” first appeared on US coins in 1864, when Congress passed an act authorizing the coinage of a 2-cent piece bearing this motto, and has appeared uninterrupted on U.S. coins and currency ever since. On July 30, 1956, it became the national motto, recognized as being an appropriate representation of our nations Judeo-Christian heritage. However, the ACLU and other atheist organizations have sought through the court system to remove “God” from any public reference, including coins. Today, our national motto is becoming relegated to occupy a position on the edge of coins, with those backing such change claiming the need for additional space on the front side. The truth is, however, that the edges wear away first and so to with it our national motto. Contact your congressional representatives and speak out against this change – demand that our national motto be returned to its place of prominence on front of all US coins!
America has witnessed a massive expansion of government into the everyday lives of her citizens. Irrespective of political affiliations and philosophy, everyone should be deeply concerned at the speed through which change is being imposed. Big brother is growing far too fast and needs to be reminded that the government works for the people, not the other way around. These principles that have sustained America for over 200 years are now in jeopardy and citizens need to participate to defend our great American democracy, irrespective of political affiliation.
